“For me, Toro del Mar combines everything that fascinates me about bulls and the sea!”, explains Frank Krüger! The Mallorcan by choice has long been a big fan of the sea and bulls have become an integral part of his art. For him, combining both great loves in this way was the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream.

Just like the sea, Taurus are beautiful, spirited, elegant, full of energy and sometimes unpredictable and dangerous. Frank himself experienced the sea from its most powerful side as a surfer off the coast of the island of Corfu. There, while windsurfing, the mast broke and he was being pushed farther and farther out, struggling to reach the safe last point of land to avoid going out to sea. In the end he just barely made it. This showed him that water in particular should not be underestimated and that, despite all its beauty, it also harbors many dangers. It is very similar with the bulls, which are known for their ferocity and always show their unpredictable side!

More than two years have passed from the first sketch to the finished sculpture. This required a lot of patience from the artist, but also made it possible to find the perfect paint for the idea. Today, when you look at Toro del Mar, the deep blue is noticeable from afar! Depending on the incidence of light, the shade of blue seems to change again and again, which alone creates a special effect. A total of 16 coats of paint have been applied!

But that’s not all that stands out with the paint. If you get closer to the bull, you will immediately see the next special feature: the paintwork not only has an unusual color, but on closer inspection it also seems as if the surface is made of cracked glass.
