Mallorca. Just the name itself stirs a longing: for glittering seas, golden beaches, tapas under twinkling strings of lights. Yet those who look a little deeper discover that this island is far more than a postcard paradise.
For artists like Frank Krüger, Mallorca is above all one thing: a place that floods the senses – with color, light, and life.
“When I arrived here over 20 years ago, the light of the island simply grabbed me. Everything feels more intense, more vibrant. Even the shadows are more colorful.” – Frank Krüger
Magical Light and Colors That Tell Stories
It’s truly this legendary light that has attracted painters, photographers, and sculptors for centuries. In the morning, a soft pink covers the coastline, while at midday, the turquoise of the sea burns so brightly it almost seems unreal. And in the evening? The sun bathes everything in a luminous orange-red glow.
No wonder artists in Mallorca paint not just pictures but emotions. Anyone who lives or works here inevitably develops a new sensitivity for nuance.
Frank often says that the island has taught him to notice the subtle sparkle in the everyday – the play of light on the bull sculpture in his gallery, the rich tones of the fruits in his 3D artworks, or the sun’s reflection in a glossy layer of lacquer.
But it’s not only bulls that connect Frank’s art to Mallorca. His deep relationship with the island also shines through in some very special pieces:
- His “Mallorca” 3D artwork in aluminum, where a colored lacquered aluminum plate features another plate mounted in the shape of the island of Mallorca. This piece feels almost like a topographical love letter to the island, whose contours he interprets in vibrant light.
- His earlier landscape paintings, such as the work “Retrovisor,” painted in a style of surrealist photorealism, giving Mallorca a nostalgic atmosphere.
- His paintings of coves and seascapes, in which he captures the azure water, rugged cliffs, and Mediterranean light on canvas – sometimes dreamy, sometimes surreal.
In all these works, you can sense that for Frank, Mallorca is not merely a place to live but the very heart of his artistic inspiration.

A Home for Creative Souls from All Over the World
That Mallorca is a magnet for artists is also evident in the brand-new book “Great Artists of Mallorca” by Axel Ruske and his wife Regina Elisabeth.
This large-format art book brings together impressive portraits, photographs of works, and stories of artists who have found their second home in Mallorca. Among them, of course, is Frank himself, who sees his identity reflected both in his expressive bulls and in Mallorcan landscapes.

The book launch at the Gerhardt Braun Gallery was truly a highlight. Artists, collectors, and art lovers exchanged anecdotes, popped champagne corks – and kept returning to talk about that unique magic that Mallorca radiates.
If you’re curious: The book “Great Artists of Mallorca” is available for €69 in our galleries or online here. It’s worth it not only for art lovers but for anyone who wants to understand what makes Mallorca so special.

Mallorca – A Place for Big Dreams
Perhaps it’s the light. Or the fact that here you wake up to the sound of waves and end your evening in vibrant bars. For many artists, Mallorca is not just a place to work – but a place where dreams suddenly feel within reach.
Frank, at least, never grows tired of discovering his island anew. And anyone who visits him in his galleries quickly senses: His heart beats for Mallorca.
